Getting back out there

I’m a runner. I’ve always been a runner. From joining my first running club at age 9. Winning money beating boys older than me, I’ve always loved to move, and move fast.

But life happens along the way - a snapped Achilles’ tendon while racing at the National Indoor Arena, a run in with a bus, a broken bone in my foot and recently a resurgence of the weakened Achilles meant lockdown weight a plenty. Months of not running added up to a yearning to get back out there.

And finally yesterday I did get back out there. And loved it so much I went back today. Now I mustn’t be hasty, that niggly injury could be quick to return. Slow and steady wins the race. And the race this time is to be back out there, running, in nature.

Remember what you loved as a child, what you loved about it, and bring it back into your life as an adult. Whether that be dancing, playing air guitar, knitting, crafting or running. Look after your mental health, it’s just as important as your physical health.

And let me know if you decide to take action.
